Donald Clemens McMacken, Jr. was born on 26 Nov 1942 in New York to Donald Clemens McMacken and June Wood McMacken. His father worked for Shell Oil, Inc. and that took them to CA.
After graduating from Miramonte in 1960 he joined the Army and went to Ft. Ord for basic training. In Jan. 1961 he was sent to Germany until Aug. 1963, when he returned home. At that point he and Sue Tharp became engaged. They went to Oregon State University that fall where Sue completed her senior year and Don finished his freshman year in engineering in June, 1964 and they married.
The marriage was not successful and ended in divorce on 7 Oct 1966 in Corvallis, OR. Don went on to marry Pamela Noble, which ended in divorce. He then married Patricia Ann Debeau, who had a son Christopher from a previous marriage. She died in 2013 and Christopher lived with his natural father after that. His last wife was Sue Ann Johnson, who died nine years after Don, in 2018.
Don graduated from Oregon State in 1967 and became an engineer for Shell Oil, Inc. in Portand, OR.
He died on 6 Nov 2009 in Portland, Multnomah Co, OR. I saw the obituary in The Oregonian newspaper, but I don't know the cause of death.
We became friends after our divorce and he was a good man. However, I moved to Texas and he moved to Portland, OR and we never saw or spoke to each other again after 1969.
Dear Sue, thanks for the update on Don McMacken. As you reminded me, I was in your wedding party. Don and I were good friends and lived near each other in Sleepy Hollow. As all of would say, those were the good old days. Do, Dick Miller, and Mark Schutenhelm hung out together and did some crazy things in those days. Thanks again for contributing to the memories you have of him and his life. Hope to see you at the 60th! Warm wishes! Ron Kooyman
I definitely DO remember that you were one of the groomsmen. Dick Miller was supposed to be the Best Man and Kurt Lundblad and George Hollidge were also groomsmen. (On the female side, Marilyn Marsh, Miramonte "62, was my Maid of Honor. The other three were sorority sisters.). However, George was so hung-over the morning of the wedding that he couldn't make it! Don's father became the Best Man. I will never forget it! Also, afterwards Kurt's younger 16-year-old brother caught the garter and his mother said "I hope not!"
