Rod and I grew up together as we lived a few houses apart. We spent our childhood together and remained close for 75 years. Rod had been in poor health for the last few years but he was always doing something whether it was yard work or car repairs or upgrading his trailer and he was doing something when he died. I know that he attended all the reunions and would tell me all about it as only Rod could do. I will miss him.

Rod and I lived in the same neighborhood. He liked to think he was a bad boy but I knew he wasn't. He'd pretend to harass me and Sally Young! Rod had dyslexia and no one in the school system knew how to help him! It was so frustrating for him. His home life was difficult. He was kicked out of Miramonte high school but went on to be a success! He was a mechanic for big equipment and raised two families! He and Jan have a lovely home in Walnut Creek for many years! I visited them at Duncan Mills once when they were camping in their great Airstream! He always went to the reunions. We kept in touch in the last few years by phone. I'm so sad that my friend has passed ! I always told him what a success he was! I will miss him! A life well lived!🙏🙏❤️💕😭😭

How many of you remember this far back?  Here is Rod Holtwick in Mrs. Sunny's kindergarten class at Orinda Union School.   He is in the front row second from the left.  It is interesting how many of us stayed together clear through high school.  Many in the picture are no longer living - except in our memories. Here is the list.  You may see yourself.  (I probably have some spellings wrong.  Kindergarten was a long time ago.)

bottom row L-R  John Flaherty, Rod Holtwick, Cebe Wallace, Peter Telfer, Jack Doty, Pat Rahmeier, Grant Shuey, Julie Allen, Linda Lancione, Allen Somerstrum, Joan Hoyer, Louise Cianciarullo, Babette Ambler

middle row L-R  Donna Lane, Michael Stahle, Sally Stewart, Lynn Ballard, Barbara Bowman, Peter Cluff, Chuck Butler, John Nelson, Paul Teachout, Linda Kronke

top row L-R  Dick Hanlin, Tom Miles, Ann Harrison, Lynn Reinklund, Dave Putty, Rob Anthonisen, Mrs. Sunny

Thank You Rod for keeping ties with your Orinda School friends over these many years. You would call and chat and arrange afternoon get togethers at your home. You were a man of many talents, Master Mechanic, Cabinet Maker, Etc. You made our little part of this world a better place. Rest In Peace.                                              Your Friend,    Mike Cain

This news saddens me. Rod would call me once in awhile. He loved to talk about a mutual old friend and he loved going to our class reunions. The kindergarten photo posted is very cute of everyone. Much time has passed. Old friendships remain in our hearts. Blessings to Rod and his family.
