Douglas W. Howard Jan. 29, 1942 - Mar. 3, 2008 Resident of Walnut Creek Doug Howard passed away peacefully at home on March 3, 2008 at the age of 66. His devoted wife Karen and family were with him when he lost his valiant battle to prostate cancer after 8 years. Born in Berkeley, California, Doug moved to Orinda with his family when he was 13 and was in the first class to open and attend the brand new Miramonte high School, Class of '59. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. Doug also attended Diablo Valley College for two years.Doug was sincere, and had a caring demeanor throughout his long career in sales, including the last 22 years at Wilco Supply in Oakland. He is survived by his loving wife Karen; his 3 children and their spouses: Jeff (Lisa), John (Jill), and Jennifer Howard; Karen's 2 children: Kelli Highberger (Todd), and Craig Riesterer. Doug was the adoring grandfather to Carlie, Kevin, Hannah, Nate, Jenner, Alli and Chad. He is also survived by his brothers Mike (Carol) and Bob (Lee Ann) Howard, by his sister Lauri (Greg) Killian. Also by many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was also blessed with many wonderful friends. Friends and family are invited to Doug's Memorial Service at St. Stephen Catholic Church on Saturday, March 29, at 2:00 P.M. 1101 Keaveny Court, Walnut Creek. A reception to follow. There will be a private interment at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Prostate Cancer Foundation (1250 Fourth St, Santa Monica, CA 90401), and/or the Hospice of the East Bay (3470 Buskirk Ave, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523).
