In Memory

Rob Anthonisen - Class Of 1959

Rob Anthonisen

Received from Mike Wilmar July 25, 2021,

I just learned that Rob Anthonisen died at the end of June. He was involved in an auto accident, and while not seriously injured himself, his car was totaled. He died a couple of days later of cardiac arrest. He was very upset over the accident and his wife Lorraine believes the cardiac episode was brought on by the stress.

(Webmaster: when and if we find an obituary, we'll post it.)

Rob and I started kindergarten 75 years ago at the old Orinda Union School. We were classmates until we graduated from Miramonte 13 years later. All human beings are unique, but Rob gave that word new meaning and depth. He was funny, memorable, and sometimes a little crazy, often all at the same time. He was fun to be around; he was very much a part of our growing up; and we were all looking forward to seeing him at the Reunion. I am so sorry to learn that he is gone, and we won’t be able to enjoy one more time that marvelous mix of qualities that made Rob who he was.

Oh no! I am shocked to hear this. Thank you, Mike, for letting us know. Rob was bigger than life and never shy about his thoughts. He was my Facebook friend and we kept in touch. Rob was my campaign manager when I ran for cheerleader. He was so enthusiastic and so much fun. I will miss him. Vicki McCosker Saputo

I knew Rob for over 50 years. I can recall us playing on many sports teams together including Cub Scout baseball when we were 10 years old. I can also remember when we were around 13 years old , Rob, FLOYD BLANEY and I would be taken up to Tilden park by one of our moms to play golf for the whole day.
we were also connected through the high school years playing on many of the school teams including basketball and baseball.
After  I went off to college, Rob and I didn't stay in touch and actually only reconnected about five years ago when out of the blue I received a hand written letter letting me know he tracked me down on the Internet and wanted to get back in touch. Over the following years and up to quite recently I would receive emails from him mostly about his concern over the terrible shape of our country . Almost every note included a cartoon regarding Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer or the squad.
I know he really was looking forward to attending the reunion this summer and his presence will be sorely missed.

Bill Houston.
