This saddens me greatly.  Reflecting back on our high school years, Lonnie was the best. She was the one who named me 'Zeke'. Rest in Peace, Lonnie Jean.

After moving to Orinda in 1948, Lonnie became one of my first friends.  She, Michele Harrer, and Lynnie Ballard were the three girls who lived relatively near me and my first playmates.  I can remember walking to her house on Moraga Way from mine on Irvine Drive (later renamed Rheem Blvd) when we were in grade school.  (Something I would not dare to do today, but at the time, I had no fear.)  I have so many memories of Lonnie!  The slumber party she had and she woke up with the measles, when she got her horse Flicka, Girl Scout camp, and just being my friend.  In high school I remember making posters for her (and my mom silk screened ribbons) when she ran for head cheer leader and won.  Then, we drifted into other "groups," but she was always my friend of old!  I will never forget her!  Seeing her again after she moved to Sonoma years later was such a treat!  My friend was back.
She, her mother Evelyn, her dad, and her younger brother Scott, were wonderful people!  I am so sorry to hear of our loss!  She was such a tremendous friend and outstanding person!  She was a leader in every sense!
Once she got cancer, I did not hear from her and I understand that she had a difficult time but put up a good fight.  I am so very, very sad to hear of her death.
May you go with God, Lonnie!
Sincerely, Sue Tharp Guerra

With her sparklling personality and spirit, Lonnie brightened all our days at MHS.  The world is a little less bright today.

I"m very sorry. I had hoped that Lonnie would rid of the cancer and be able to join us on 4/25/18 for a reunion of the 55th Miramonte reunion committee. But it was not to be - and we wish her well in the Afterlife!

Very sad...

I went back to our yearbooks and read the notes that Lonnie wrote to me every year.  Always positive, honest, with a beautiful "hand" .  Her smile jumped off the page.  Last time I saw her she told me a story about her and Marge Williams coming to visit me sometime when we were all at Glorietta school together.  My mom said I couldn't see them because I was practicing.  I had never heard that story before, and at this very moment I regret that I missed that opportunity!

For me at times like this, the best I can do is to pass on the positive experiences, the love and friendship I had with someone who has passed on.  To take more time with friends, family and people I meet every day, and to cherish and be grateful for every moment.

I am sad to hear of Lonnie's death.  She had the most sparkling smile of anyone.  I still remember meeting her and Bonnie McClaverty at the Orinda Theater the summer before my sophomore year when I started Miramonte.  They were both so welcoming and friendly.  And that smile of Lonnie's could warm anyone's heart! We are so fortunate to have had such a great high school experience with so many wonderful people!  Lonnie will remain forever in our memories...and that smile...
