Gary was born to James and Matilda Lucas of Orinda on June 7, 2041 and passed away from heart disease on January 17, 2019.   Gary was known by most of his close friends as "Luke".  He was a member of the Knights while at Miramonte; four of the "Knights"  friends were at his Celebration of Life; how heartwarming that was.

In 1960, Gary married his high school sweetheart, Judie Roberts and worked at Lucas Paving, a family owned company.  He was the father of two wonderful children; daughter,Victoria, and son, Craig. He enjoyed being the grandfather of eight, seven great-grandchildren and just two days before his passing, one great-great-grandson.  Gary and I had a very close friendship through the years; he and Laurie always enjoyed the holidays with our family

Gary cherished his family and embraced his many friends made through his life adventures and businesses. He and Amy Franklin were co-owners of  "Lukes" restaurant in Lafayette; one of those "where everyone knows your name" kind of place.  He loved playing golf; the tournaments at Lake Tahoe went on for over 20 years.

Gary found a common interest in exotic birds with Laurie Baker and the two of them had many friends at their Bird stores in Lafayette, Walnut Creek and Concord and  remained companions until his passing on January 17.

On January 27, the family had a "Celebration of Life'" at Luna Ristorante in Concord and the outpouring of love was amazing.  Gary left us unexpectedly, but he told us not long before; "if I died today, I am completely happy to say I've had a full and happy life.".........and that he did.
